Kids & Teens
Most kids have the focus and fine motor control to make real progress starting around third grade. We build a traditional foundation first. Then we bring in chord theory, playing by ear, and improvisation to keep them engaged with the genres they actually listen to.
Adult Music Lessons
You are not too old to start playing an instrument. I actively teach adult music lessons in Allen TX, and I know exactly how to work around a busy schedule. I offer flexible booking and bi-weekly lesson options so you can finally learn that classic rock riff or classical piece after work.
Meet Your Music Instructor
I started playing music when I was young. Music was always playing in my parent’s home; Classical, Pop, Rock, Country and more, that variety shaped how I teach today. My mom had extensive training in piano when she was growing up. My dad learned guitar as an adult.
I played and performed in bands all through Jr. High, High School and College. I went on to earn my Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas. I trained internationally under world-class musicians in Spain and Italy.
I’ve been teaching music since the mid-1990s. In that time, I’ve learned why some students give up and quit lessons. Sometimes they learn a style or genre that doesn’t resonate. Or maybe it’s learning using outdated methods that feel more like a chore.
I try to do things differently. I teach fundamentals; technique, reading, practical theory and songs. I also love teaching students how to play by ear, chords and how to improvise. Whether you are interested in playing classical, pop, acoustic folk, or classic rock, I will help you get there. If you don’t know what you like yet, we will figure it out together.

Third grade is an excellent age to start lessons. Every kid is different, but by third grade, most students have the focus and fine motor control to make real progress with musical instrument lessons.
Buy, don’t rent. Renting isn’t cost-effective for most instruments I teach. Average prices for entry-level model guitars range from $150 to $450 for brand-new, reliable instruments from reputable manufacturers. It’s possible to find free traditional acoustic pianos on Craigslist, which is a great value. These types of pianos are usually the console type. The only type of electronic keyboard I recommend for lessons is an 88-key digital piano. Yamaha makes an excellent student digital piano for around $400 to $450. In addition, you would need a stand and a bench that adjusts for proper height, which is crucial for a student to develop proper technique. Please do not order instruments from Amazon.com. Unless you are experienced in purchasing musical instruments, get assistance. Don’t go at it alone.
Aim for 30 to 45 minutes, six days a week. Two short sessions a day works well for most beginners. The exact time matters less than what happens during it. Focus on careful, deliberate repetition of whatever you’re working on that week.
Not even close. Adult students are a group I actively want to teach more of. Most music teachers don’t market to adults at all, which makes it a wide-open door for anyone ready to walk through it.
